Now let's figure out what each group of VIN code means. This knowledge tells about the place of manufacture, the series, the year of production, as well as the type of equipment.
WMI (World Manufacturers Identification) is a number indicating the manufacturing company. It is compiled according to ISO 3780 (the first 3 letters and subsequent digits). They point to the state where the car was released. This part of the code is controlled by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), which is controlled by ISO. The initial sign is the continent, indicated by both numbers and letters, for example:
South America - 8, 9, 0.
The European part of Eurasia - from S to Z.
Africa – A-H.
North America – 1-5.
Oceania Islands – 6 and 7.
The Asian part of Eurasia is J-R.
